Study about the Economic Base of the Viana do Castelo Port's hinterland territory

The study aimed to furnish a structured report on the economic base of the hinterland of the Port of Viana do Castelo, adressed to the Administration of Ports of Douro and Leixões, which is the future managing authority of this port. It can be understood as a preliminary approach to the market potential of this infrastructure. The following elements were analyzed: (i) magnitude, dynamics and mechanisms of regional economic base growth;  (ii) industrial structure and sectorial growth trends; (iii) degree of openness to external relations. The study conclusions were a contribution to a future development strategy for the port of Viana do Castelo, also presenting preliminary perspectives about the market potential generated by the hinterland of the port.
