Update of the Eixo Atlantico's Infrastructures Plan (North Region Urban System)

The updat of the Eixo Atlântico's Infrastructures Plan took into account two paradigms in public polices programming: (i) the identification of shortfalls regarding the cohesion objectives and (ii) the increasing focus on the modernization of infrastructural endowment supporting territorial competitiveness. The already implemented actions and projects that have integrated the first version of the Plan have been taken into consideration and new needs concerning the next 2007-2013 programming period have been defined. The implementation level has been considered as globally satisfactory, but some shortfalls in the territorial consolidation of the Eixo Atlântico urban system have been identified. The analysis also identified some bottlenecks still observed in the urban system of the inner territory of Eixo Atlântico as well as some punctual shortfalls in littoral zones. These shorfalls coexist with an effective revolution in the road connectivity and  fluidity in the littoral zones. The study also presents a new generation of infrastructural priorities that is necessary to begin preparing. .
