Portugal: 20 years of European Integration

The study collects and organizes a broad set of indicators measuring the results of 20 years of European integration of Portuguese economy, as a background material of an official publication coordinated by the European Commission delegation in Lisboa. The selection of the indicators has been made using criteria like: (i) the pertinence of the indicator to measure the evolution of the economy, the society and the national political context and impact after 20 years of adhesion to the EU; (ii) the availability of official data and its comparability relatively to other reference geographic spaces. The main data sources that have been mobilized were the EUROSTAT and INE. The selection of these data sources is justified by homogeneity assurance and comparability of information. However, as far as other specific domains are considered, namely the political evolution of Portuguese society and the "feeling about Europe" other sources have been used, such as for example the results of the EUROBAROMETER.
