The Natura 2000 Sector Plan (PSRN2000, July 21, 2008) states that municipal plans as instruments of Land Management, shall conform to their provisions, as defined in DL 140/99, with as amended by DL n. º 49/2005 of 24 february (art. 8., no. 3, b), through the mechanisms provided in the referred DL or under PSRN2000.

In connection with Serpa`s Municipal Master Plan elaboration, the work of adapting the guidelines of the sectoral plan for the municipal plan involved three sequential steps: (i) methodological definition of the study and identification of bibliographic sources to be used; (ii) identification of habitats and protected species and mapping of key structures and ecological systems to be incorporated in the review of PDM Serpa, in accordance with the guidelines of the Natura 2000 Sector Plan; (iii) definition of management and conservation guidelines to be adopted within the PDM for limited areas.
