Intervention Strategy for the Upgrading of the National Road nº 222

Quaternaire Portugal participated in the elaboration of a study for the Douro Mission Unity and for CCDR-N regarding the upgrading of the national road 222 as far as the landscape planning is concerned. In the first phase, we have characterized the intervention area in the fields of landscape, natural and cultural heritage and punctually regarding the public space, infrastructures and land use issues. Ina second phase, we have developed action proposals involving the landscape upgrading and enhancement of the four stages of the course  - humanized, riverside, wine territory and plateau, as well as some key sites.  The collaboration also involved the definition of programmatic contents of the proposed actions and landscape guidelines. A final product encompassed guidelines for tourism signposting and information along the road.
