The Municipal Assembly of Nordeste approved, last December 19th 2012, the proposal for the review of its Municipal Master Plan. Nordeste has a peripheral location on the main island of the archipelago and an essentially rural character, which the new accessibility (SCUT) is an opportunity to its affirmation in the regional context and the municipality’s development.

The Review of Nordeste Municipal Master Plan had as objectives: (i) to affirm the Nordeste municipality in regional context, (ii) to promote the qualification of urban land and quality of life, (iii) to create conditions for the development and qualification of the rural land; (iv) to enhance the biophysical resources of the territory and environmental quality; (v) to promote the development of tourism and of recreation and leisure activities. The spatial development model that is proposed is based on the guidelines of the Regional Spatial Plan of Azores Autonomous Region (PROTA) as well as a significant number of sectorial plans affecting the territory.
